NASA BLEW UP A PROTOTYPE OF A POSSIBLE "SUCCESSOR" TO THE ISS

Sierra Space, along with Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin, has been developing a space station called Orbital Reef for several years. This week, a prototype of one of its modules, an inflatable astronaut habitat, was deliberately blown up to test the safety of the future station. See how it was.

The ultimate burst pressure test was conducted in the NASA Space Flight Center fire trench. The space agency has signed a contract with developer Sierra Space to prepare two prototype modules for the future Orbital Reef orbital station.

The Orbital Reef is a commercial space station project that is intended to consist of a long structure of rigid modules and side blocks, some of which will be inflatable. It is assumed that different departments of the station will be able to rent to different companies and agencies.

According to Sierra Space, the test of the inflatable compartment was successful.
