WHICH WIRELESS HEADPHONES TO BUY RIGHT NOW?

In order to not beat round the bush, we have a tendency to forthwith indicate that during this material we'll point out realme Buds Air three wireless headphones, which might currently be thought of the simplest selection of all those out there on the market.

See, choosing wireless earbuds doesn't have to be a daunting task. The right headphones (and realme Buds Air 3 is just that) must meet a few simple requirements.

  • Good sound. Don't expect wireless headphones to sound like wired studio monitors. This will never happen. The right headphones should sound balanced: clear vocals, clear highs, presence of bass, instrument detail. The headphones should be comfortable both talking on the phone and listening to electronic music, and classics, and podcasts. realme Buds Air 3 has dual microphones and 10mm drivers, which are responsible for sound clarity and good bass.
  • Noise suppression. Having traveled at least once with the “noise canceling” function in public transport, you will no longer be able to refuse this feature. realme Buds Air 3 has 42dB noise reduction, which is the maximum value for compact TWS headphones. At the same time, the headphones themselves have good passive noise cancellation, making the realme Buds Air 3 work well as a headset.
  • The battery life is preferably at least 4-5 hours. realme Buds Air 3 with noise canceling enabled lasts 5.5 hours and 7 hours without. Together with the case, this is another 22 hours. And 10 minutes of charging in the case is 1.5 hours of music!
  • Affordable price. Wireless headphones are, unfortunately, consumables. Ask the subway employees about it, who collect “ears” lost in the subway with buckets. Accordingly, the price of the right headphones should be such that they don’t shake and suffer if something happens.

In principle, here are all the characteristics that good wireless headphones should have. Anything more is a bonus.

For example, realme Buds Air 3 has IPX5 protection. This means that the headphones are not afraid of sweat and rain and can be a good addition to training or walking.

It's also good if the headphones support the latest version of Bluetooth. So, realme Buds Air 3, due to the fact that they work on Bluetooth 5.2, firstly, have an ultra-low audio delay - 88 ms. This is important in games and when watching movies. When the delay is large, then there is a feeling of "out of sync". Secondly, Bluetooth 5.2 allows you to simultaneously connect to two devices at once: for example, a smartphone and a laptop.

And finally - it's nice if the headphones look good. Design is subjective, but I think the realme Buds Air 3 are pretty. What do you think? However, realme Buds Air 3 has many more nice features and secrets, in addition to those that have already been listed. Let's look at the "ears" a little more closely.

Design and management

The word Air ("air") in the name creates certain expectations that are not deceived. Both the case and the headphones themselves are compact and lightweight. So, the case weighs 37 grams, and each earbud weighs 4 grams. Due to such a small weight in the ears, the headphones are practically not felt.

In the box, in addition to the packed headphones, there are also replaceable ear pads, documentation, and a Type-C cable for charging.

The case is glossy, but the white color perfectly hides all fingerprints and scratches. At the top there is a transparent insert with the brand name. The lid is magnetic, opens with a slight effort, and closes with a pleasant click. On the front side there is a neat LED that will inform you about the battery charge status. And at the bottom is a Type-C connector for charging.

realme Buds Air 3 comes in two colors. The second is matte blue.

There are glossy inserts on the ends.

In terms of design, the realme Buds Air 3 are quite different from their peers. These headphones can be accurately recognized from afar - silver matte legs give out. And the case itself is made of white plastic.

On the leg there are two slots for the microphone. realme says that this arrangement of the slots avoids situations where gusts of wind reduce the effectiveness of noise reduction, creating interference.

Management is carried out by the usual taps-tapping on the headphone case. By varying long and short taps, the user can switch tracks and change noise reduction modes, answer and end calls.

By the way, realme Buds Air 3 in the application allows the user to customize the controls by choosing the number and duration of taps for a particular action.

These headphones can be accurately recognized from afar - silver matte legs give out. From left to right: AirPods, AirPods Pro, realme Buds Air 3, Xiaomi Buds 3.

The earphones feel comfortable in the ears. At the same time, they sit quite tightly, so you can play sports in them. And after a few hours, the ears from realme Buds Air 3 do not get tired. As a minus, you can only find fault with the fact that there is no volume control using touch controls. You have to get your smartphone.

The app that did it!

To get the most out of realme Buds Air 3, download the realme Link app. Don't be lazy!

realme Link is the hub for all realme smart appliances. Busy moment. The application has a “virtual experience” function, that is, you can open the interface for any smart gadget from realme and see how it works (for example, explore all the settings and capabilities of the robot vacuum cleaner).

When the application is installed on a smartphone, when the headphones are turned on, a proprietary animation works, showing the charge of each of the headphones and the case.

I will briefly list the main functions that are available in the application:

  • Noise reduction control - selection of the “noise reduction” power (soft or normal), turning on the mode against strong wind.
  • Control setting.
  • Ear Detection - This feature pauses playback when the earpiece is removed from the ear.
  • Activate the function of connecting to two devices at the same time.
  • Game mode (ultra-low latency mode).

Separately, I note the auto-answer function: you can answer the call by removing the earpiece from the case. It's comfortable.

Well, the main feature of the application is sound customization. Here and bass boost mode Bass Boost +, and a whole test for 3 minutes, which should create a personal audio profile. At the end of the test, you can listen to the track and compare how it was and how it became.

The function is interesting, but not everything is clear. For example, in my case, "tuning" was perfect for electronic music, but it's sad to listen to calm instrumental music - it has become overly saturated. So do not forget to turn on and off the tuning mode depending on the compositions.

You can customize the controls in the app.

Perhaps the only thing that was missing was a full-fledged equalizer or manual editing of the created audio profile. It would be nice if the user was allowed to correct the radial chart himself.

The realme app turned out to be good. Even if you don't consider yourself an audiophile, you'll still enjoy experimenting with features.

Sound

realme Buds Air 3 features balanced sound. Headphones support the AAC codec and equally well cope with diametrically opposed compositions - from drum & bass to "Bi2".

The clavier of the realme Buds Air 3 (as intended by Bach) comes out well-tempered, and the Darkside “paper tracks” come out clean (Paper Trails – Darkside composition).

The headphones have three audio presets: Bass Boost +, "Balance" and "Bright".

In the settings there is a Bass Boost + mode. As you can guess from the name, he is responsible for making the bass seem richer. You should use it selectively, including if you are going to listen to R&B and other beat compositions.

The most versatile are the "Balance" and "Bright" modes. In "Balance" the low and high frequencies are slightly cut. In a word, balance. For this reason, for myself, I chose the "Bright" mode. Here, the bass is still not as aggressive as in Bass Boost +, and vocals are emphasized.

Perhaps I would like to say a few words about the ultra-low lag function. In the application settings, it is called "Game Mode". This feature is best used in games, but most annoying is its absence in movies. An important point to keep in mind. In order for the game mode to work, not only the headphones, but also the phone must support the latest versions of Bluetooth.

And finally, it is necessary to mention the support mode for two devices. This option is available due to the fact that the headphones work using the Bluetooth 5.2 protocol. Headphones can be connected to a phone and a computer at the same time. And the sound will switch on the fly. For example, when a call comes in, realme Buds Air 3 will automatically switch to the smartphone.

For many (even those who haven't listened to them), the Apple AirPods have become the unwritten standard for wireless headphones. I had the opportunity to compare realme Buds Air 3 with regular AirPods and AirPods Pro. Let me remind you that the first ones cost about 15 thousand rubles, and the firmware is sold for a little more than 20 thousand rubles, that is, 2-3 times more expensive than realme.

Comparing realme Buds Air 3 with AirPods, you will be surprised, since realme has a bigger and richer sound. When listening to the jazz composition You've Got To Have Freedom (Pharoah Sanders) there was a feeling that I was standing outside the door, and then went into the room where the music was playing directly. Considering the difference in price, this is at least funny. But, to be honest, I was even a little upset, but consoled myself with the fact that in the case of Apple, you pay for the “apple”.

Comparison with AirPods Pro pleased a little more on the one hand, but upset on the other. I was pleased that the headphones for 22 thousand rubles will still have a wider scene than the realme Buds Air 3. But I was upset, since realme's noise reduction is subjectively not inferior. Let's talk about "noise reduction" further.

Noise Reduction and Transparency Mode

Realme Buds Air 3's noise canceling is surprisingly powerful. I have both AirPods Pro and the latest Xiaomi Buds 3 on my hands. These are increasingly more expensive headphones than the Buds Air 3. But they are inferior in terms of noise reduction quality.

In general, realme is certainly doing it wrong. For the price, these headphones should have slightly worse noise cancellation.

Considering that the headphones have good passive noise cancellation, the realme Buds Air 3 can easily cope with the distant rumble of the road and the noise of the subway (in the new car).

Also, the headphones have a “transparency” mode, which, as it were, emphasizes the sounds around you so that you are not too fond of music, forgetting about the world. With the "transparency" mode, you can easily hear the murmur of the tires of a car driving up in the yard.

Both the noise reduction and the "transparency" mode in the settings of the realme Link app can be equipped with a wind-cutting function. In the case of noise reduction, the function works perfectly. But the transparency mode still increases the wind.

The anti-wind feature is most useful in headset mode.

Speaking of noise cancellation, realme Buds Air 3 is the first earbuds to receive TÃœV Rheinland certification for noise cancellation quality:

TÃœV Rheinland's professional certification ensures guaranteed noise-canceling performance through a rigorous and sophisticated testing process that tests the headphones' comprehensive noise-canceling capability and conducts simulation tests for over 10 real-world user scenarios.

To put it simply, TÃœV Rheinland has confirmed that the headphones do indeed have 42dB of noise cancellation and that the headphones do a really good job of canceling out ambient noise.

Battery life

Battery life is a strong point of the headset. In noise canceling mode, the headphones really hold 5.5 hours. Well, if you need to gain a couple more hours, you can turn off the “noise reduction”. The earphones are quite snug to the ear, so in quiet conditions passive noise isolation does an excellent job.

The issue of operating time is not worth it in principle, since in just 10 minutes in the case the headphones are charged for 1.5 hours of operation.

Conclusion

realme Buds Air 3 is ahead of many more expensive competitors in terms of features and sound quality. And in terms of noise reduction and battery life, these headphones are definitely in the market leaders.

Let's briefly analyze the pros and cons.
